HeliWX — helicopter weather briefing
HeliWX is designed to collect as little data as possible. We do not use advertising, analytics, or third-party tracking of any kind. This page explains what is stored and why.
What we store on your device
- Device identifier — one first-party cookie (
hwx_device_id) used once, when you first sign in on a device, to bring the settings it kept before into your account. - Your settings & sign-in session — stored in your browser's local storage so the app works offline and keeps you signed in.
- Performance — to keep the app fast and light, the interface and recently viewed data are cached on your device so it loads instantly and uses less data. Weather is always re-fetched when you are online, so you never rely on outdated reports.
These are strictly necessary for the app to function and stay on your device. We do not use any cookies for advertising or tracking, so no consent banner is required.
When you create an account
Using HeliWX requires an account. We store your email address and your account and subscription status to provide the service.
If you fly for an operator
When you are a member of an operator on HeliWX, each report you export is recorded as made under that operator. Its owners and administrators can open those reports, exactly as you exported them, for 3 months — so the operator can keep its flight preparation records (EASA ORO.MLR.115) and show them in an audit. They keep that access to the reports made while you were a member, even after you leave. Each time they open one, it is written in the operator's journal.
The operator's journal records what its owners and administrators change on HeliWX — pilots, invitations, minima, flight rules, settings — and the reports they open: who, what, when, before and after.
How long we keep it
- Your account — for as long as it exists. You can delete it yourself at any time from the Account page: your profile, settings, briefings, routes, areas, waypoints, presets and sign-in are erased at once.
- Anonymous profiles (never signed in) — deleted automatically after 90 days without activity.
- Briefings you exported — kept 90 days in your history, after which that PDF can no longer be re-opened and leaves the history. The record of the export itself is kept for billing, detached from your account if you delete it.
- An operator's journal — 24 months.
- Alerts we sent you — 90 days.
- Diagnostic logs of the weather we fetched — 30 days.
- Payment records — held by Stripe under its own terms; the copies we keep of its notifications are deleted after 90 days.
A daily automatic pass enforces these periods.
Service providers
- Supabase — authentication and database hosting.
- Stripe — payment processing, used only if you subscribe. Stripe may set its own cookies on its checkout pages for fraud prevention.
- Aviation weather sources — public METAR/TAF data providers, queried to build your briefing.
Your rights & contact
You can clear all locally stored data at any time from your browser settings, delete your account yourself from the Account page, and request access to or deletion of your account data by contacting us at contact@heliwx.app.
